It is a “…strategic long-term vision for a prosperous, modern, competitive and climate-neutral economy by 2050″
Energy Demand?
Coming down from ~14,000TWh to roughly 10,000TWh.
Energy demand coming down is a good thing but only if we also act to decarbonise the supply of that energy by electrification and renewables.
Offshore wind?

Floating wind?
“…in order for offshore wind to operate in deeper waters, such as the Iberian coast and the Mediterranean, turbines will need to be floating rather than fixed to the ocean floor. Solid progress is being been made in this respect* and there is a pipeline of projects that will lead to the installation of 350 MW of floating capacity in European waters by 2021. This will need to accelerate afterwards”
SuperGrid? HVDC?
“…increased interconnection capacities will be needed if electricity networks are to match growing renewable energy supply and electricity demand over ever larger geographical distances. High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC), which generates less transport losses, could play an increasing role in the connection of offshore wind farms and help establishing a pan-European electricity ‘super-grid’”
