German Federal Network Agency touts great potential of Superconductors

For the first time the German Federal Network Agency (“Bundesnetzagentur”) has included superconductors in its Electricity Network Development Plan for 2035. The plan released on 14 January 2022 mentions superconductors while addressing pilot projects and new technologies:

“This technology [Superconductors] has great potential and grid deployment in the gigawatt range in 2030 is realistic if, for example, corresponding pilot projects are planned in the grid development plan.”

SuperNode CEO John Fitzgerald responded to the inclusion:

“I am very pleased that Germany’s Bundesnetzagentur acknowledges the great potential of superconductors for bulk electricity transmission with minimal visual and environmental impacts. SuperNode is working hard on commercialising the technology and is confident that we will deliver on that potential.”

SuperNode is a cutting-edge global technology development company that designs and delivers superconducting connection systems to connect renewable generation and increase grid interconnection in mature markets.
