Department of Environment, Climate & Communications: Offshore Renewable Energy Future Framework Policy Statement

SuperNode has responded to the Irish Government’s Offshore Renewable Energy Future Framework Consultation. SuperNode outlined the paramount importance of grid technology alongside renewable energy generation for Ireland’s energy ambitions.

Policy Analyst Philip McCann who led the response stated:

“We must ensure Ireland has the appropriate enabling grid as well as the renewable generation. Without a fit-for-purpose grid, there will be no route to market for generation which would jeopardise net zero targets, Ireland’s energy independence objectives, and the commercial opportunities for Ireland of exporting renewable energy”.

SuperNode advocates for innovative grid solutions, such as high-capacity superconducting cables, to support offshore renewable energy expansion. Without advancements in grid technology, Ireland risks falling behind and missing out on crucial energy opportunities. SuperNode urges the establishment of a clear framework to foster grid innovations and position Ireland as a leader in the field. This includes embracing a meshed grid architecture for offshore grids to enhance resilience and redundancy.
