BEIS: Offshore Transmission Network Review: Consultation on Enduring Regime and Multi-Purpose Interconnectors

SuperNode believes the UK cannot meet its offshore renewables targets in an efficient and effective manner without long-term planning of grid development.

Marcos Byrne, SuperNode Market and Policy Analyst said:

“the UK is moving in the right direction in its thinking for the future of its offshore wind resource. A long-term Holistic Network Design will provide the clarity for future grid works and increase confidence in the industry to continue to facilitate the supply chain. SuperNode believes there is still a huge amount of work to be done but is encouraged by the ongoing work from BEIS and Ofgem”

He continued:

“SuperNode believes a strategic plan should be led by a single entity with open and transparent involvement from key stakeholders including but not limited to Ofgem, NGESO, Crown Estate, Crown Estate Scotland, TOs, developers, and other industry stakeholders. There should also be accommodation made for interaction with the equivalent bodies from neighbouring grids as interconnection and coordination will be critical to achieving the highest level of efficiencies.”
