SuperNode has added its voice to a call for the Committee of the Permanent Representatives of the Governments of the Member States to the European Union (COREPER) to use its meeting on 6 October to maintain a tight focus on Clean Technologies in the NZIA, which was proposed by the European Commission on 16 March 2023.

In a joint letter to EU Ambassadors, signed by a coalition of companies representing sectors that are listed as strategic technologies in the European Commission’s proposal, COREPER was urged to reject calls from some MEPs to scrap the NZIA annex, which lists eight strategic net-zero technologies including onshore wind and offshore renewable technologies and grid technologies.

The letter also welcomes the decision to link the NZIA to National Energy Climate Plans (NECPs), but stresses that other planning tools must also be linked, specifically National Development Pans (NDPs) from National Grid Operators.

The letter was cosigned by “currENT”, the key industry association representing innovative grid technology companies operating in Europe, which is chaired by SuperNode’s Chief Public Affairs Officer, Christian Kjaer.

Commenting on the letter Christian remarked: “It is very important that the NZIA maintains its focus on Clean Technologies and tightens its links to NECPs and NDPs, especially in light of the Energy Efficiency First principle.”
