SuperNode responds to Private Wires Consultation with a call for more opportunities for innovative cable technologies.

Super Node has submitted a response to the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications’ consultation on Private Wires, which highlights the need for innovative cable technologies to help decarbonise electrical grids and reach our 2050 climate and renewable energy targets. Permitting Private Wires projects can provide more opportunities for innovative technologies while also expediting grid development, but they must align with Ireland’s overarching plan for decarbonising the electricity system and becoming a net energy exporter. Private Wires also offer opportunities for contestable build, which can further promote cost-efficiency and innovation, in line with Article 3 of the EU’s Energy Efficiency Directive revised earlier this year.
