How to waste over half a trillion dollars: The economic implications of deflationary renewable energy for coal power investments

A newly released report from Carbon Tracker has shown that more than $600 billion of capital being spent on new coal plants will be wasted as it is already cheaper to build and generate electricity from new renewable capacity than from coal plants in all the major markets worldwide.

Governments have been urged to cease investment into new coal generation and redesign their respective the regulation of their power markets to better suit the transition to a decarbonised economy.
