SuperNode has responded to the European Commissions ‘Renewable Energy Directive II’ public consultation. The consultation aimed to gather views from stakeholders for a revision of Directive 2018/2001/EU on the promotion of the use of renewable energy (RED II).
SuperNode’s response made some key points. The first and foremost is that the RED II needs to be revised to reflect the increased ambitions of the New Green Deal and Climate Target Plan.
In light of this, the push for electrification must be prioritized and accelerated as it is the pivotal step in decarbonizing European economies. Renewables powered electricity is the cleanest and most efficient way to achieve decarbonisation and so renewables targets should be increased across every sector from electric vehicles in transport to renewables based heating and cooling in buildings.
SuperNode also recommends a comprehensive EU wide Renewable Energy Integration Strategy (REIS) 2050 which will help to develop an EU wide renewable electricity system as efficiently and effectively as possible.
